Botlierskop

The open vehicle stops and the ranger raises a hand. Thirty metres on, an elephant stands in the fynbos and pulls down a branch with its trunk. You would never guess the sea is half an hour away.

Botlierskop lies halfway between Mossel Bay and George, inland of the N2, a private reserve of 6,000 hectares in the fynbos biome and inside the Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve. The Big Five live here free ranging, along with antelope, and with 14 kilometres of watercourses the ground is greener than the coast would suggest. Day visitors can book guided game drives, horseback safaris, a spa, a pool and a restaurant.
